New Alice in Wonderland Additions at CreativeCritters

New Alice in Wonderland sculptures and dolls

I recently sold my Alice Meets Mr. Caterpillar and my Cheshire Cat sculptures so I figured I'd better get to work adding more Alice in Wonderland pieces to my shop.  I recently completed a handsewn Alice cloth doll which is about 12 inches tall and was sewn from muslin fabric and stuffed with polyester fiberfill.  She has hand painted blue eyes and is wearing a blue floral print dress under her white apron.  Her black shoes were painted with fabric paint as well.  She'd make a fun gift for a little girl, or an older Alice in Wonderland fan.OOAK Handmade Alice in Wonderland Inspired Cloth Doll
I also finished another polymer clay Cheshire Cat sculpture.  This one was sculpted in light and dark purple clay and measures about 4 inches tall.  He's got that classic goofy Cheshire grin, which glows in the dark, as do his large eyes.  I plan to sculpt more Cheshire Cats, simply because they're so darn fun!  And the glow in the dark effect is just awesome!Handmade Alice in Wonderland Cheshire Cat w Glow in the Dark Smile

Right now I'm working on a plush March Hare, which is coming along nicely.  I'm in the process of deciding what to sculpt next, and have been thinking about creating some Alice in Wonderland jewelry as well.  When it comes to this story, there really are no limits on what can be created.  Be sure to check back at CreativeCritters often, since I'm constantly coming up with new creations.  Thanks for stopping by!Laughing

Handsewn cloth dolls from CreativeCritters

I've been making cloth dolls for several years now.  My best friend got me started when she gave me a Waldorf doll kit for Christmas and asked me to make a doll for her son.  I knew how to sew, but had never considered making dolls before this.  My first doll turned out quite well, and several years later it is still cherished and played with daily.  Wanting to learn more about doll making, I bought a few books with patterns for different dolls and their clothes.  And I was off and running!  I discovered I really liked making dolls, and giving them each their own personality.  All of my dolls are sewn by hand and measure between 14" and 18" tall.  Some have jointed arms, and some have tab style arms.  Most often I'll use yarn for hair, although some of my dolls have faux fur hair.  I sold a few dolls to my aunt, who is a doll collector, and she has them prominently displayed in her living room.  My neice still plays with the doll I created for her as well.  I also sew all the clothes by hand, which sometimes takes longer than the doll itself. I enjoy finding just the right fabric, and combining (or creating) patterns for the perfect outfit.  All of my dolls have names, which usually come to me after I've painted the faces.  That's when their personality really starts to come out.  I also sign and date each of my dolls, which are all one of a kind creations.  A lot of love goes into these dolls, and I really do feel an emotional connection to them.  They're soft and very nice to hold, just comforting somehow.  Below are some of the dolls available in my shop, and I plan to add more as Christmas approaches.  Just click on the picture to go directly to the listing, or browse my entire Doll Category. Thanks for stopping by!

Wendy the Witch doll and her Black Cat Spook

Wendy the Witch doll and her Black Cat SpookThis is Wendy. She's all ready for Halloween, dressed in her Black and dark blue witch costume. Wendy is a 17" tall hand sewn cloth doll. She's made from muslin and stuffed with polyester fiberfill. She's wearing a black dress (also sewn by hand), with a sheer blue overskirt. The star on the front of the bodice was painted with glow in the dark dimensional fabric paint, making for a really fun effect in the dark. The dress fastens in the back with velcro. Her legs and boots are all one piece. I used striped fabric for the legs to resemble striped tights. Her boots were sewn from black fabric and I then painted the uppers with Halo Blue Gold Metallic Acrylic paint. This creates an incredible shimmer (and adds a little magic to those boots)! Wendy's bright blue eyes were painted by hand with fabric paint. Her arms have plastic safety joints and her hair is soft Homespun yarn. Her cape was sewn using black fabric, on which I painted more glow in the dark stars, with the sheer blue fabric on the outside. Her hat, made from stuff black felt, also has glow in the dark stars painted on it. Her little black cat is named Spook and was sewn from soft black fleece and stuffed with polyester fiberfill and plastic poly pellets. His eyes were painted with glow in the dark paint and his nose is pink felt. Spook has some very good "Cat Magic" and is quite comforting to hold. Wendy and Spook are one of a kind original creations, handcrafted with love. This pair would make a great gift for any child, doll collector, or anyone who enjoys Halloween.

With Halloween right around the corner, creating a doll in a witch costume just seemed natural. I didn't plan too far ahead with Wendy- I let her guide me to the right fabrics, paints, and patterns. Spook turned out wonderful as well, and he really is quite soothing to hold (seriously, it must be the Cat Magic). The glow in the dark paint creates a really cool effect in the dark as well- it has to be seen in person to really appreciate it! I've also signed and dated Wendy's bottom, so you know she's an original creation.

New Halloween Costume Dolls from CreativeCritters

After taking a bit of a break from dollmaking, I'm back at it again.  This time I've got Halloween on my mind.  So I thought, what could be cuter than dolls dressed in Halloween costumes?  As a kid I loved dressing up for Halloween.  One of the first costumes Gramma ever made me was a kitty cat costume (I've always been a cat lover).  So my first Costume Doll is wearing an adorable black cat costume.  These dolls are nice enough for doll collectors, yet safe for children.  They can be dressed and undressed (something all kids love to do), and they're very cuddly and nice to hold.  Everything is carefully handsewn, including their underwear, which always has their name printed on the waistband.  Each doll has their own personality, which usually comes out after I paint their eyes.  I love each and every doll I create, and strive to do the best job I can.

This is Katy, known to her friends as Kat. She is a 17" tall handcrafted cloth doll. She and her clothes were completely handsewn with great care. She's made from muslin and stuffed with polyester fiberfill. Her pretty blue eyes were painted with fabric paint and sealed with a high gloss glaze. Her light blond hair was made from soft wavy Homespun yarn. Her arms have plastic safety joints, allowing her to be posed. Kat is ready for Halloween and a night of trick or treating in her black cat costume. The one piece costume is made of soft fleece and has a tail sewn to the back. It has a zipper on the front and pink felt paw pads on the hands and feet. Kat also wears a removeable elastic headband with her cat ears sewn on. She's also wearing underwear with her name printed on the waistband. She even carries her pumpkin basket, ready to fill with Halloween candy. I made this from orange felt with a wire handle. Katy would be a wonderful gift for any child or doll collector. Katy is a one of a kind original creation, handcrafted with love. I've signed and dated the bottom of her right foot.

CreativeCritters is the Featured Artist on ArtFire.com!

Hi there!  I'm Michelle from CreativeCritters on ArtFire.com and my shop is being featured on the front page today!  I actually forgot that I was being featured today, so I had a very nice surprise when I checked out the front page and saw CreativeCritters as the featured artist (although the picture and name are wrong, you still click through to my shop).  If you read the full interview it has the right name and pictures.  This is so cool, I just wanted to share with everyone!  Below is a sample of what I create.  I sculpt in polymer clay, make jewelry, sew cloth dolls, and plush World of Warcraft characters, and knit stuffed animals.  I add new items to my shop nearly every day, so be sure to stop in and see all I have to offer.  If you don't find just what you're looking for, just contact me and I'd be more than happy to create something special just for you!  Thanks for looking!
